Neungsiam Takes Home World Title
FnF's Samart (Neungsiam) Samphusri finally had the opportunity to make his U.S.A. debut. It was a great night. The fights, on a Tuesday night in Fresno, were some of the best fights that California has seen in a longtime. We had a nice amount of fans in the crowd and we all had an amazing time.
Our night started out with FnF's Evan Esguerra fighting against Matt McConchie from Pride Gym in Canada. This was a very exciting fight between two true warriors. Both fighters came out very aggressively with great punches, kicks and knees. The first round was very even with Evan having a slight edge over his opponent. In the second round the fighters quickly ended up in the clinch where Evan dominated. By the end of this round, Matt was hurt after enduring some powerful straight knees to the stomach. Matt came out in the third round very aggressively and landed some powerful punches on Evan. The exchanges continued until the last second with both of these fighters showing great heart. In the end a unanimous decision to Evan. Congratulations to Evan for a great performance and victory!
Neungsiam's fight was against Raul Llopis out of Tampa, Florida. This was a great fight with a lot of action and excitement. The first round, in the true tradition of muay thai, started slow with the opponents sizing each other up. Raul started to press the action by coming forward and throwing his hands at Neungsiam. Neungsiam's timing was beautiful and he stepped to the side, delivering strong left kicks. At the start of the second round, we got to see why Neungsiam was a Lumpini Champion and how that makes him different than other fighters. Raul continued coming forward at Neungsiam with his hands but Neungsiam was able to land a big left kick every time. Every exchange ended in the clinch and Neungsiam began throwing hard elbows at Raul. By the end of the second, Raul was cut and the fighters were warmed up.
The next three rounds continued in the same fashion and the elbows kept landing. Raul ended up with at least three cuts but continued to fight hard and with a lot of spirit. Neungsiam's superior timing, technique and power were very apparent in this fight and we are so proud to have him as our trainer. He was awarded the IMTO Featherweight World Title with a unanimous decision. We are hoping to get the tape from the promoter in the next week or so – it is a fight everyone will want to own! Congratulations to Neungsiam for a title well-deserved. We can't wait for his next fight!
In other action, FnF stable mates, Ra Karma Young (Fairtex and Cheetah Muay Thai) and Mike Regnier (Pacific Ring Sports) defeated their opponents as well. Matee "Dragon Leg" Jedeepitak, our beloved friend and guest trainer, also won a world title against Youssef Akhnikh.
