Team Paris Puts on Excellent Show in Alameda
Paris Alexander, head coach from Fight and Fitness, took a team to compete in the Bay Area vs. Las Vegas Boxing event in Alameda. Doreen Wong, Gordon Chen, and Abel Acosta all competed against tough opponents and did very well.
Doreen was up first in a 3 round bout against a competitor from Meteiras Boxing Club. Both women showed tremendous heart and aggression in the fight. Doreen looked very strong throughout the bout and through many clean combinations. Her opponent didn’t back down and would counter Doreen at times getting her against the ropes. The third round Doreen really turned up her pace and showed greater skills for the finish. Doreen won a unanimous decision and took home the gold medal.
Gordon Chen also fought like a warrior in his match-up. Moments before he got in the ring, he found out that his opponent had a lot more experience. Gordon, fighting in his debut amateur match would be facing a fighter who came into the ring with a record of 3-2. At this time, Paris gave Gordon the choice to pull out of the fight because this was not the match-up he had agreed to. Gordon, unphased by this setback told Paris that he wanted to fight and would not pull out. He fought 3 tough rounds against a fighter from Oakland P.A.L. and landed some clean shots. No matter what his opponent threw, Gordon came back with something and showed tremendous spirit. Although Gordon lost the decision, he was awarded a huge trophy for fighter of the night!
Abel Acosta had the crowd going wild! His match was extremely short – 1 minute and 9 seconds to be exact. As soon as the bell rang, Abel through an arsenal of heavy punches that ended with a left uppercut to the chin. This powerful shot landed his opponent on the ground. The referee immediately called it a knock-out as the fighter was unable to continue. Abel was ecstatic as are we, for his amazing performance. Congratulations to all of these fighters on a great show!
